1903-1921
The Harvard State Bank opened for business May 18, 1903 with capital of $25,000.00. It was located in the Hjelm Building in downtown Harvard. Initial investors were from Harvard, Lincoln and Geneva. G.A. Herzog of Harvard was the bank's first president, M. Weil was vice-president and M.R. Chittick was chosen as cashier. A January 6, 1906 bank ad carried a message that is as true today as it was in 1906..."Form the habit and do your banking with the Harvard State Bank where you receive prompt service, courteous attention, utmost consideration and confidential treatment". A new bank building was constructed and on August 1, 1908, the bank was moved to the corner of Clay and Walnut. On May 28, 1910 it was reported the bank had resources of $215,930.00.

1922-1940
The Dec. 31, 1930 Report of Condition showed Harvard State Bank with resources totaling $321,479.54. The depression years brought plunging salaries and values of everything dropping drastically.....from crops to real estates and investments. Corn was 10 cents/bushel.....but the bank was one of the few that somehow survived these dark times.
1941-1959
In the summer of 1948 Ed Pressler bought controlling interest of the bank. In October of 1951 the Voorhees brothers (Lee, Charles and Clarence) purchased the bank. The Voorhees family continues to own and manage the Harvard State Bank in the 21st century.

1960-1978
The new Harvard State Bank building was built across the street from the existing bank. The bank celebrated its 75th Anniversary and moved into the modern facility in 1978. The bank's total assets were approximately 6.3 million, and had continued nurturing its excellent, conservative image.

1979-2005 and beyond
The bank remains under the same management and continues growing in both size and strength. The late '70s and the early '80s challenge the bank with a terrificly high inflation rate, leading to a New York Prime borrowing rate in the 20% range! This factor among others leads the midwest ag-economy into a serious crisis in the mid 1980's. The Harvard State Bank continues to help struggling farmers survive these times if at all possible. The 1990's brought a period of aggressive growth and many technological changes, including this web-sight and internet banking! In 2005, the Harvard State Bank had assets of over $33 million and capital of over $4.90 million. Management is working hard to continue the 102+ year trend of growth and strength....providing Harvard, Clay County, and beyond an excellent, locally-owned financial institution to do business with!
